Nylon, it’s all around us... whether you know it or not. It’s in our clothes and many of our every-day products. So, what exactly is nylon?
Before diving into the history of nylon, imagine this--You walk into your home; the fresh smell of paint fills the room. You think back to when you used a paintbrush to paint the walls. Hunger then leads you to the kitchen for food, but you catch sight of the crumbs left by a cookie thief.

Without thinking, you snatch the broom and start to sweep away the trail left behind. After all the sweeping is done, you enter your bathroom to wash your hands and the vibrant color of toothbrush catches your sight. In these short few moments, you’ve encountered 3 household products made of nylon: paintbrush, broom, and toothbrush. Products made of nylon constantly
surround us.

Flashing back to 1935, Wallace Carothers invented the first fabric (nylon) to be made in the laboratory and thus the synthetic age began. Nylon is derived from crude oil and put through a series of chemical processes to make it to what is this strong and stretchy, perfect for fabric use. Nylon can be formed and shaped into whatever is necessary; therefore it was in high demand
for many industries once it hit the market in 1940.

Stockings, swimwear, hosiery products, and activewear are all made of nylon. Non-fashion industry products include: cleaning brush, rope, sleeping bag, net, camping tent, plastic nylon bristle on your toothbrush, soft bristle hair brush (or boar bristle hair brush, depends on your personal preferences) and umbrellas are all made with nylon. Nylon is a versatile material and can be fit into any forms and shape, there comes another question, which is: is nylon products eco-friendly?

There are many different types of nylon, but they all share the same qualities: durable, moldable to any shape or form, and strong. Think about your swimsuit, have you ever seen it break? Or have you ever seen your cleaning brush bristles or toothbrush bristles break? These are perfect examples of nylon in different forms, but still very strong and durable. Nylon can be classified as a type of plastic, and in the world we live in today, we recycle plastic. In short, yes, nylon is eco-friendly. Brands have been working on developing ways to recycle nylon products. But the journey has just begun for nylon products becoming more eco-friendly. Just as any plastics, nylon products stick around for at least 30 years. Just because your stockings, cleaning brush, toothbrush and activewear is out of sign, doesn’t mean it’s eliminated off the face of the earth just yet.

As one of the top and best nylon manufacturers in China, emphasize on environmental protection is one of our missions, and thus our Nylon Product Development Team is working on various new methods to be able to recycle and reuse these nylon products. New methods of making nylon more eco-friendly start at the stage of the chemical process when making nylon. Right now, there is no one-stop-shop method to make nylon more environmental friendly or pollution free, but every nylon manufacture is trying to fine tune the process of making nylon better for the environment.
